A bus carrying 49 Army recruits to Fort Leonard Wood caught on fire on I-44 Wednesday evening in St. Robert.

 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed that the fire started around 7:24 p.m. after the right rear tire blew out. The driver then pulled the bus over and the bus was evacuated before it caught fire.

 

All 49 Army recruits and the driver were able to safely exit the bus. There were no injuries reported.

 

The Army recruits were headed to Fort Leonard Wood for basic training in-processing.

 

The westbound lanes of I-44 around mile marker 165 were closed Wednesday evening for crews to clean up the scene.
