Top-seeded Lady Tigers hammer Festus in first-round Monday.

The defending champion St. James High School girls' basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the Potosi Tournament by blasting eighth-seeded Festus 83-26 in first-round action Monday.

Top-seeded St. James, now 3-0, is slated to play fourth-seeded Arcadia Valley at 6 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals. Arcadia Valley belted fifth-seeded Fredericktown 60-26 in first-round play Monday.

On Saturday the third-place game is set for 2 p.m. and the championship game for 5 p.m.

The St. James Lady Tigers exploded for 27 first-quarter points on Monday and were in control the rest of the way. It was 55-12 at halftime and 77-16 entering the fourth quarter.

Junior guard Ashlee Marlatt hit four 3-pointers to lead a balanced Lady Tiger attack with 15 points while junior guard Alexis Uffmann had 12 points, nine steals and eight assists; freshman forward Devin Fuhring hit eight-for-eight at the free throw line for 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and senior guard Hannah Perona 10 points.
