list to go with recruitment package

Illini wish list

Here are names to track this summer, when Illinois works the recruiting trail.

Class of 2008

The best bets

G Matthew Humphrey (6-5, 175), Chicago Hales Franciscan. Slender guard picked up more offers in the spring, including one from Illini.

C Michael Dunigan (6-9, 235), Chicago Farragut. Developing big man probably stays close to home.

G Iman Shumpert (6-4, 185), Oak Park-River Forest. Illini in early on combo guard who is the nation’s fastest rising player in this class.

G Scott Suggs (6-6, 180), Augusta (Washington) Mo. Likely comes down to Illinois and Missouri, although Saint Louis could also become a player.

Tough gets

F DeAndre Liggins (6-5, 190), Chicago Washington. Illinois has plenty of competition, such as Kansas, Kentucky, Texas and Memphis.

F Darius Miller (6-6, 215), Maysville (Mason County) Ky. Tough to steal a bluechipper from the Bluegrass State.

Longshot locals

G Lewis Jackson (5-10, 170), Decatur Eisenhower. Speedster must prove he can shoot, study.

G Verdell Jones (6-4, 155), Champaign Central. Some recruiters concerned over size and strength, but the smooth Jones is solidly ranked in top 100.

G Matt Roth (6-2, 170), Washington. Shooter has range, but questions remain about athletic ability.

Two more big men to consider

C Josh Crittle (6-7, 205) Elmhurst Timothy Christian

F Stan Simpson (6-8, 220), Chicago Leo. Shot blocking, rebounding big man.

Class of 2009

G Joseph Bertrand (6-3, 170), Sterling. Drawing interest from the Big Ten and Missouri Valley.

G Chris Colvin (6-2, 145), Chicago Whitney Young. A freak athlete with unbelievable quickness.

F Tyler Griffey (6-8, 200), Ballwin (Lafayette) Mo. Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Purdue and SLU stay in touch the most.

G Marcus Jordan (6-3, 185), Wilmette Loyola. Second of Michael Jordan’s sons will get a hard look.

G James Kinney (6-1, 150), Champaign Centennial. A shooting guard who has the size of a point guard.

F Jordan Prosser (6-8, 2-5) Eureka. Abundance of forwards at Illinois makes this less likely.

G D.J. Richardson (6-3, 175), Peoria Central. An early Illini target, he may make a decision by late summer.

G D’Mitri Riggs (6-2, 170) Bloomington. Shooting guard on the radar.

F Shawn Williams (6-6, 185), Duncanville, Texas. Small forward earning offers from nation’s big names.
