Jewelries are valuable accessories. They hold not just monetary value but sentimental value too. Proper care extends the life span and appeal of all types of jewelry, from high-end Moissanite tennis bracelet in white gold to simple ones. This way, you get to hold on to them for as long as you would like.

If you want to know how you can protect your fine jewelry, we have a guide that can help you achieve that. Here are five ways to maintain and care for your jewelry:

1. Clean Regularly

One good way to keep your jewelry looking as good as new is by cleaning it. Your jewelry is always in contact with your skin, which means oils can build up over time. It is also exposed, so dirt and other substances can reduce its brilliance.

To get rid of all these build-ups that make your jewelry look dull, get a soft-bristled brush, warm water, and mild soap. Dip the brush in the soap and water mix and then scrub your jewelry gently. Once you’re done, rinse with lukewarm water and use a microfiber cloth to dry it up.

When cleaning your jewelry, never use acetone, bleach, or alcohol. They are too harsh on your piece and could really damage them.

If you don’t want to take any risks of causing irreversible damage to your jewelry, you can get a professional jewelry cleaner to take care of it. These professionals have the required tools and solutions to keep your jewelry clean.

2. Store Your Jewelry After Use

Although many pieces of jewelry can be worn around the clock, it’s best not to wear them for that long. After an occasion or before you go to bed, put them off and store them in a clean and dry case. But not just any case, get one that is padded or lined with fabric to keep your jewelry from getting scratched.

Also, consider getting a case with dividers and compartments for your jewelry. It keeps your accessories from tangling. Storing it in a container is way better than dropping it on the counter or in a drawer. Do not sleep with your jewelry, too, regardless of how tired you are.

3. Handle With Care

Many fine pieces of jewelry are advertised as sturdy. However, it is still important not to rough handle them.

Always take them off before you go to bed, do not pull them at their clasps, and do not dip them in harsh chemicals. When engaging in activities that could damage them, like swimming, exercising, or hiking, take off your fine jewelry and keep them safe. Delicate pieces can be affected by sweat and chlorine in the pool.

4. Keep Away From Extreme Temperature

You put your fine jewelry at risk of irreversible damage when you expose it to light and heat for a prolonged period. Excess heat tends to crack or discolor some gems while excess light bleaches these gems or sometimes darkens them.

So, when you want to store your jewelry, use the right case and keep it away from sunlight. Keep in a cool, dry, and dark place.

5. Inspect and Repair Your Jewelry

Do a routine check on your jewelry to check for potential damage or missing parts. When you inspect your jewelry frequently, you can quickly identify if there are broken parts or any missing stones. Addressing the issue on time will make repairing your jewelry easier.

Depending on how frequently you use your jewelry, you can inspect it once a week or once a month. However, if you want to keep it in good shape, it’s best to give it to a professional jeweler for inspection at least once a year.

Conclusion

If you care for your fine jewelry properly, it can last a lifetime. With these tips, you can keep your jewelry clean, valuable, and elegant as usual.
