You probably heard about Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension. Most NBA fans did. But did you know this suspension cost him north of $7 million?

Still, Ja Morant’s net worth is estimated at around $50 million.

Is it all from playing a few seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies? How much did the recent off-court setbacks cost him?

That’s what I set out to find. Read on for more details!

Ja Morant: Quick Bio

Ja Morant

Let’s get started with some basic info about Morant, his family, and his collegiate team:

  • Full Name: Temetrius Jamel Morant
  • Birthdate: August 10, 1999
  • Hometown: Dalzell, South Carolina
  • Height: 6’10” (190 cm)
  • Highschool: Crestwood High School
  • College: Murray State University
  • NBA Draft: Memphis Grizzlies (2nd overall pick)
    • Position: Point guard
  • Parents: Tee and Jamie Morant (former athletes)
  • Sibling: Teniya Morant
  • Children: Kaari Jaidyn Morant

Ja Morant’s Earnings Breakdown

Ja Morant’s Earnings Breakdown

Morant built $50 million from a couple of revenue streams: endorsement deals and NBA contracts.

Here are the details:

Endorsements

Ja Morant has made quite a few endorsements over the years. For one, he signed a multiyear, multimillion-dollar deal with Nike even before he was drafted.

What became of this deal after Morant got suspended twice for a gun incident (more details on that later) from the Memphis Grizzlies? Well, it’s hard to say for sure.

On one hand, the company stated that it “will continue to support” the player both on and off the court. Yet, some reports indicate that the point guard’s leading signature shoe was removed from the official site and app.

Morant was also supposed to be the face of Powerade for a new ad campaign. The deal made headlines back on March 1, 2023. But by March 13, the headlines told a different story—Powerade pulled the ad. Yes, because of the gun incident.

Remember that Morant most likely had other deals with PSD, Beats by Dre, BodyArmor, and more.

2019–22 Grizzlies Contract

Ja Morant’s entry-level, $39-million-dollar contract with the Memphis Grizzlies was set for four years at an average salary of about $9.9 million.

The contract guaranteed the point guard $27.5 million on signing, too.

The New York Post reports indicate that the player’s 2022–23 salary got docked around $1.5 million after the firearm incident, though.

Five-Year Extension

The Grizzlies gave Morant a five-year extension worth at least $197 million (could jump to about $231 million). His average annual salary based on the contract terms would have been more than $30 million.

According to Spotrac, Morant’s earnings from the 2023–24 season were around $34 million. This put his estimated NBA earnings over five seasons (four on the entry-level contract and one from the five-year extension) at a little over $73.6 million.

The New York Post also estimates that suspension cost the point guard $39 million on the contract due to missing the All-NBA selection.

Fines and Forfeited Earnings

Spotrac tracked Ja Morant’s fines over the years, and it all stands at about $7.8 million with 33 games of suspension in total.

The bulk of that estimate comes from the last suspension (25 games), labeled as “conduct detrimental to the league.” But there are a lot of technical foul fines on the list, too.

While those aren’t particularly hefty, they do add up.

Ja Morant’s Suspension and Off-Court Setbacks

On the court, Morant’s playmaking ability stood out. But off the court, he was making headlines for different reasons.

In February 2023, some Pacers team members said that a group of Morant’s acquaintances “aggressively confronted” them in the loading area of FedExForum.

Morant was also accused of punching a teen after an altercation. However, Ja Morant had a different account of what happened and filed a report against the teen. Morant eventually got a break in a civil suit, though.

Then came the gun-brandishing incidents that led to the suspensions.

After the suspension periods, Morant had to undergo surgery on his right shoulder. So, he had to stay off-court even longer than anticipated.

Assets and Lavish Spending: How Ja Morant Spends His Money

Assets and Lavish Spending How Ja Morant Spends His Money

When you have NBA money, it’s only expected to go a bit crazy with your spending. But would you tip a waitress $500? Morant did.

The lucky waitress didn’t recognize him immediately, but it finally hit her that this was Morant from the Grizzlies, and he was incredibly gleeful.

Morant also reportedly blew $50K in a gentlemen’s club. Witnesses said the whole room was full of cash piles.

What else does the All-Star player splurge on? Cars and property.

Let’s check out the details.

Car Collection

Many athletes and celebrities boast a fancy car collection in their garages, and Morant is no exception.

He has a Rolls-Royce Dawn, a black Dodge Charger, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. All in all, Clutch Points estimates that the collection is worth $600K.

The two-time All-Star bought his parents new wheels—a Dodge Charger for dad and an Audi A8 L for mom.

Properties

Ja Morant didn’t just fork out on cars for his parents. He got them a house, too.

Then, he got a nearby house for himself. And it wasn’t just any house—it was Kyle Anderson’s $3 million Eads mansion. The property has seven bedrooms, ten bathrooms, a game room, a movie theater, a pool, and a basketball court.

It’s worth noting that this went down about two months after Morant signed the $193 max contract.

Donations

The practice facilities in Murray State now have a “Ja Morant Recovery Room.” Yes, the Grizzlies point guard paid for it!

Final Thoughts

Morant just lost a season, but he’s expected to be ready for the 2024–25 season. Hopefully, he’ll be able to turn things around!
