Students attending Phelps County R-III in Edgar Springs will be getting an day off from school Friday, but for many of them, it won’t be very fun.

What has been described as a ‘flu bug’ got passed around the school, causing about 50 students to be absent Thursday.

Because of the absences — which amounted to about 1/4 of the student body — officials have decided to close the school Friday.

“We are going to sanatize the school and try to get rid of all the flu germs,” said Misty House, President of the Phelps County R-III Board of Education Thursday evening.

The school, which has about 200 students enrolled, is expected to be open Monday.
