The two Rolla High School softball teams both fired no-hitters on Wednesday, June 24 in the Rolla Girls’ 18-Under Fast-Pitch Softball League at Ber Juan Park.
In the first game the Rolla varsity team shut out the Vienna Warthogs 11-0, as Maegen Shults and Andrea Zalis combined for a no-hit perfect game. Shults worked the first four innings on the mound and Zalis came on in the fifth. The duo fanned eight batters in facing the minimum in the five-inning contest.
Offensively Rolla got five runs in the first inning, two in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth. Shakira Gonzalez had two hits and scored three runs for the Lady Bulldogs while
Taylor Skelton smacked a triple and single; Kim Nix tripled and scored, and Zalis clubbed three hits.
In the second game the Rolla junior varsity squad lost to the Vienna Warthogs 2-0 despite a no-hit pitching performance by Logan Reese.
Reese had a perfect game going and it was a scoreless tie heading into the fifth inning. However, Vienna scored two times on an error, walk and sacrifice fly.
Reese struck out seven Warthogs.
Morgann Kleeschulte had the lone hit for Rolla’s jayvee squad.
In other league games from June 24, it was Lebanon 7, Cuba 3; Lebanon 9, Cuba 3; Sugar & Spikes 14, Sullivan 3; Sugar & Spikes 9, Sullivan 0; Crocker 9, Sullivan 0, and Crocker 8, Sullivan 2.
