Dixon golfer Jace Long has advanced to the quarterfinals of match play in the Missouri Amateur, being held at the St. Joseph Country Club.
Long, a sophomore-to-be at the University of Missouri, won his second- and third-round matches on Friday.
In the second round Friday morning Long knocked off Dean Merrill of Kansas City 3 and 2.
And in the afternoon Long defeated Brian Scott of Hannibal 3 and 2.
That moves Long into the Amateur quarterfinals.
In quarterfinal pairings scheduled for Saturday, it’s:
Long vs. Andy Hogenmiller, Washington.
Caleb Carter, St. Joseph, vs. Justin Bardgett, Chesterfield.
Brian Whittle, Golden City, vs. Skip Berkmeyer, St. Louis.
Josh Taylor, Overland Park, Kan., vs. Brian Haskell, St. Joseph.
The winners of those matches will advance to the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
The 36-hole final is scheduled for Sunday.
