Long wins first round of Amateur match play

Dixon golfer Jace Long has advanced to the second round of match play of the 2009 Missouri Amateur, beating Van Pierce of St. Albans 2-up on Thursday.

Long, a member of the Mizzou golf team, was the low qualifier after two rounds of medal play Tuesday and Wednesday. The low 64 scores advanced to the Amateur’s match-play format.

This morning Long was to meet Dean Merrill, of Kansas City, in the second round of match play. The third round of match play is slated for later this afternoon.

On Saturday the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds are scheduled. A 36-hole final is scheduled for Sunday.
