The Newburg High School boys’ basketball team was playing one of its best games of the season.
Then Richland’s Dakota Hall struck.
Hall, a 6-3 junior, poured in 10 points in the fourth quarter, including three put-back field goals off offensive rebounds, to pace the Richland Bears to a 66-63 come-from-behind Frisco League win over Newburg.
The host Wolves fall to 5-18 overall and end the conference season with a 1-7 mark. Richland finishes Frisco League action 6-2.
The Wolves end the regular season on Friday, hosting Steelville on Newburg Senior Night, with action starting at 6 p.m.
On Tuesday the game was tied 11-11 after the first period and Newburg went into halftime up 30-25. The Wolves had a 21-point third period to up their lead to 51-41 entering the fourth period.
However, Richland outscored Newburg 22-12 in the final period, powered by Hall.
Senior guard Devon Drew fired in 24 points, including a 10-for-12 performance from the free throw line, to pace Newburg while sophomore Alan Yelton hit six 3-pointers and had 18 points and sophomore Kaleb Robinson 10 points.
Hall netted 24 points for the Richland Bears while junior Seth Myers had 16 points and senior Jacob Shelton 11. Richland hit 14-of-17 free throws.
Richland won the junior varsity game 57-52. Tyler Rogers had 15 points and Robinson added 14 for the Newburg jayvee squad.
