U-14 Rolla Knights win Salsa Tourney gold

The U14 Rolla Knights boys took home the gold at the Salsa Tournament, held June 5-7 at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex in Blue Springs and hosted by Lee’s Summit Soccer Club.

The Knights dominated play, finishing with a 4-0 record and scoring 18 goals while allowing just four.

The Rolla squad defeated Lee’s Summit Vipers 5-2 and topped Futura Javuntus 4-1 in regular pool play.

In the semifinals the Knights knocked off Kansas City Fury 5-1 to advance to the title game.
In the finals the Rolla squad posted a 4-0 shutout victory over Quincy United.

The Knights are currently 19-1-1 in the spring season and are preparing to compete for a national championship in the US Youth Soccer National President’s Cup tournament July 15 in Raleigh, N.C. The Knights qualified by winning the Region II President’s Cup Tournament in Madison, Wis. June 12-15, finishing with a 2-1 mark.

In the Region II meet the Knights defeated Indiana’s Jr. Irish Pride 1-0, lost to Wisconsin’s Croatian Eagles 3-2 and in the finals beat Illinois’ Little Illini 2-1.

In the first round of the National President’s Cup next month the Knights are scheduled to meet Region I champion NE Aztecs from Boston, Mass.; Region III champion Hurst United FC from Ft. Worth, Texas, and Region IV champion Los Alamitos Titans from California.
