The Rolla High School girls soccer team sent senior captains Kaitlin Bramel and Anne Drallmeier out with a win Thursday, as the Lady Bulldogs silenced Union 3-0 on Senior Night at Kiwanis Field.
“It’s always nice to go out on a win,” Bramel said.
It was last game of the regular season for Rolla, who improved to 16-8 with the victory.
“I’m glad to end with a win,” Drallmeier said. “That’s a good feeling.”
For Bramel, a midfielder, it’s the last home game of a superb high school career in which she starred in three other sports as well. She was a big contributor in all of them right when she came on the scene as a freshman.
“It hasn’t hit me yet,” Bramel said. “I think this team has a chance to go a long way in the playoffs. We have a ways to go. It won’t hit me until our very last game.”
Drallmeier, a back, was a four-year varsity player for the Bulldogs.
“I’m going to miss it a lot actually. I love it,” Drallmeier said. “And, I’m going to miss the team even more. We are all pretty tight. It’s going to be sad without them. The team is what makes it fun.”
“Kaitlin and Anne have done a lot for our program. They both have been on varsity all four years. They are good people and they are a lot of fun to coach,” RHS head coach Mike Howard said. “The last two years when this team has been so young, their leadership has been huge for us. They have stepped it up and done a good job.”
It was a muddy Senior Night for the two girls, as the heavy rains of the past few days had the field soaked for Thursday’s game.
However, the conditions didn’t hinder the Lady Bulldogs, as they went up 1-0 on the Wildcats just eight minutes into the contest. Junior Kim Carter netted the goal on an assist from sophomore Jaclyn Standfast.
The game remained 1-0 through halftime before Standfast added a goal 18 minutes into the second half. She scored on an assist from junior Kaitlyn Hall. Four minutes later, freshman Ellen Spooner notched the final goal of the game on an assist from Bramel, making it 3-0.
“I thought we played really well with the exception of the first ten minutes of the second half. We started banging the ball around, and we can’t play that direct and have success,” Howard said. “We made some switches, and I was pleased how the team settled down after that. We scored two goals right away. We haven’t been able to get separation this year, so I was happy. Most of our games have been one-goal games.”
