Two from area receive golf scholarships
J.D. Nash, a student at Newburg High School, and Jace Long, a student at Dixon High School, will each receive a one-time $1,500 college scholarship from the Lake of the Ozarks Junior Golf Association, it has been announced by Jan Clark, secretary of the association.
Lady Tigers run soccer record to 13-3
Freshman Amanda White scored both goals and keeper Eden Welch recorded her eighth shutout of the year as the St. James Lady Tigers soccer team blanked Fatima, 2-0, Monday at Westphalia.
In earlier games, the Lady Tigers beat St. Clair, 2-0, on goals by White and Marilyn Hughes and with Welch in goal; lost 2-0 to Union; beat Sullivan, 3-0, with White scoring all three goals and with Welch in goal, and beat St. Clair, 3-0, on two goals by Hughes and one by Kate Rapp and with Welch in goal.
Larry Karnes to attend Central Methodist University
Larry Karnes, a senior on the St. James High School football team this past year, will attend school and play football beginning this fall at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. He is expected to be a defensive back.
St. James baseball Tigers beat Cuba, 6-3
The St. James Tigers baseball team beat Cuba, 6-3, on Monday in Cuba to improve to 2-13 on the year.
Justin Brown went the distance on the mound to get the victory.
Brown scattered ten hits, walked one and struck out ten.
Earlier, St. James lost 13-5 to Licking.
The key offensive performers for St. James against Cuba were Carson Hunter, Ryan Parker, Tyler Craft, Larry Karnes, Drew Carter, Aaron Carson, Ryan Dautenhahn and Kaleb Stowers.
In the jayvee game against Cuba, Wes Persicke hurled a no-hitter (over five innings) in a 7-0 St. James win.
