The top-seeded St. James High School girls’ basketball team was backed up in beginning its defense of the Newburg Tournament.
The Lady Tigers had been scheduled to play eighth-seeded Licking in first-round action on Monday. However, due to the snowy weather the tournament was backed up.
Now, the first-round games are slated to be held Wednesday at the Newburg High School gym.
The tournament is scheduled to continue Thursday and Saturday, at the original times.
Cuba is seeded No. 2 for the Newburg event while Salem is seeded No. 3, Viburnum No. 4, Dixon No. 5, Fatima No. 6, Newburg No. 7 and Licking No. 8.
In first-round games Wednesday it’s St. James vs. Licking at 4 p.m., Viburnum vs. Dixon at 5:30 p.m., Cuba vs. Newburg at 7 p.m., and Salem vs. Fatima at 8:30 p.m.
On Thursday, the St. James-Licking loser plays the Viburnum-Dixon loser at 4 p.m. and the Cuba-Newburg loser plays the Salem-Fatima loser at 5:30 p.m. in consolation play while the St. James-Licking winner plays the Viburnum-Dixon winner at 7 p.m. and the Cuba-Newburg winner plays the Salem-Fatima winner at 8:30 p.m. in the semifinals.
On Saturday the seventh-place game is scheduled for 3 p.m., the fifth-place game for 4:30 p.m., the third-place game for 6 p.m. and the championship game or 7:30 p.m.
