A field of 24, four-person scramble teams competed Monday in the annual Missouri S&T Athletic Department Golf Tournament at Oak Meadow Country Club.
Bottom line, the athletic department should net about $6,500 from the tournament, Joe Gorman, tournament coordinator, said following the conclusion of play.
Dr. John F. Carney III, chancellor at Missouri S&T, was on hand to partner with Gary Grice, Don Brown and Gorman. The chancellor’s team shot a three-under-par 67 to finish tied for third place in the third flight.
Gorman said he rated the tournament a highly successfuly event and thanked all those who participated. So did Mark Mullin, the athletics director at Missouri S&T who also played in the event.
Every team entered was to have at least one S & T coach or official on the team.
For the record, RDN golf stringer David Dearth who is retired from running the computer center at S&T, reported that three teams tied for first place in the top flight, A Flight. All three teams fired 18-under-par 52s with the help of some unusual tournament rules.
Based on a scorecard playoff, the team of Doug Grooms, Stevie G. Gesualdi, Jim Jones and Mark Miller captured the first-place prize. Grooms is the coach of the nationally-recognized S & T swimming team.
