The first annual Disc Golf Ice Bowl will be held in Rolla Saturday, February 13 at the newly created Ber Juan Park Disc Golf Course.

Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and closes at 9:30 in Meeting Room A at The Centre (1200 Holloway). The entry fee is $15 for adult and $5 for children under 12.

Participants are also encourage to bring as much non-perishable food they can provide (food will be donated to GRACE). The entry fee includes a mini disc and lunch. All players are welcome regardless of ability and can sign-up for one of five divisions (advanced, advanced masters, intermediate, novice and junior). There will also be closest-to-the-pin contests for prizes and mulligans will be on sale as well as Ice Bowl merchandise.

The first Disc Golf Ice Bowl was held in Columbia, Mo. in 1987. It was subsequently promoted as a day of disc golf solidarity in the gloom of winter by Disc Golf World, a disc golf sales and promotion company that is located in Kansas City. Official Ice Bowls are played at courses all over the United States, and in Canada and Europe in a corridor that runs this year from January 2-February 28. Each event is encouraged to find a local charity to support. The collective Ice Bowl goal for 2010 is to raise over $250,000 worldwide. In 2009, over $223,000 was raised at 190+ Ice Bowls. Last year’s leading fundraiser was the Mile High Disc Golf Club in Colorado who raised over $14,000. The coldest Ice Bowl was -9° in Edmondton, Alberta, Canada. The snowiest was in Kalkaska, Michigan where 30 intrepid disc golfers played in 42 inches of snow.

The rules of the Ice Bowl are simple: 1) Under no circumstances can an Ice Bowl be postponed or cancelled; 2) No wimps or whiners are allowed; 3) There are no excuses for not attending; and have fun while helping collect food for a local charity. (Either be there or be a wimp!)
