Missouri S&T senior Tamara McCaskill made an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark Saturday in the high jump to highlight six first place finishes by the Lady Miners at the Jim Green Indoor Track Invitational at Illinois College.
McCaskill cleared 5-7 ¼ to win the event and make the qualifying mark in the process. She won the event by three and one-half inches over Central Methodist’s Rebeca Barajas.
Hillary Griffith won two events for the Lady Miners Saturday, taking firsts in the 55-meter dash in 7.42 seconds and the 200-meters in 26.78 seconds. Lisa Lake also came away with a winning effort Saturday as she placed first in the 5,000-meters in 19:24.58 as did Sarah Stach in the long jump with a mark of 17-0 ½.
The Lady Miners’ 4x400-meter relay team also won that event as it posted a time of 4:08.49.
S&T got a second place effort from Natalie Updyke in the 400-meters with a time of 1:01.21 and third place performances from Kassie Osborne in the 400-meters in 1:01.34, Colleen Conrad in the mile in 5:44 flat, Mindy Lake in the 5,000-meters in 19:47.11 and Lindsay Crutcher in the long jump with a mark of 16-7 ¾.
Paige Kruse finished fourth in the 800-meters in 2:26.93 as did Elizabeth Hinck in the 5,000-meters in 20:34.40 and Stach in the triple jump at 34-6 3/4, while Crutcher took fifth in the 400-meters in 1:03.65 along with Samantha Wermager in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.75 seconds.
Sixth place finishers were posted by Samantha Schussele in the 800-meters in 2:32.32, Crutcher in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.02 seconds, while Wermager was seventh in the triple jump at 33-4 1/2
Osborne placed ninth in the 200-meters in 28.33 seconds as did Lisa Barrett in the 800-meters in 2:34.62 to go along with her eighth place showing in the triple jump at 33-2 ½.
The Lady Miners’ next competition will take place next weekend at the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas, while some individuals will compete at Iowa State in the Cyclone Classic.
