Area prep football roundup: Salem shuts out Houston, 45-0

The Salem Tigers pitched a shutout Friday night.

The Salem High School football team dominated action in Houston Friday, blasting host Houston 45-0 in South-Central Association action.

Salem improves to 1-1 both overall and in the conference while Houston is 0-2 overall and in the SCA.

On offense Salem rolled up 391 total yards.

Senior quarterback Ryan Smith rushed for 101 yards on only four carries while connecting on all three pass attempts for 54 yards.

Also for Salem junior Johnnie Boyd and junior Ben Adams each scored two touchdowns and junior Sammy Ibrahim and junior Junior Rictor each scored one TD.

Senior place-kicker Kevin Presley was 6-for-6 in extra points and added a short field goal.

Salem has a SCA showdown at home this coming Friday against Mountain View/Birch Tree Liberty.

In other games involving area teams:

Owensville 7, Sullivan 6: In Four Rivers Conference action at Sullivan, the Dutchmen stopped the host Sullivan Eagles short of the goal line on a fourth-down situation at the Owensville one yardline with three minutes left to play. Owensville was then able to hold on for the win.

Owensville got its TD on a 86-yard TD reception by Jason Kottwitz and the PAT. Sullivan got a 45-yard touchdown run by Luke Mayer, but the conversion attempt failed.

The Dutchmen are now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the league while Sullivan is 1-1 both overall and in the conference.

Owensville is to host St. Francis Borgia while Sullivan hosts DeSoto in non-league games this coming Friday.

Union 35, Vashon 0: In non-league play at St. Louis, the Union Wildcats erupted for 413 yards of total offense -- 220 of it passing. Union led 21-0 at halftime and 35-0 after three quarters.

Wildcat quarterback Chris Savage hit on 16-of-25 passes for 193 yards while Ryan Baser rushed 19 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns and Ryan Coons also scored a pair of TDs.

Union, 2-0, is slated to open Four Rivers Conference action this Friday against St. James.

Potosi 32, Pacific 17: In non-league action at Pacific, Potosi went on a 20-0 run in the fouth period to come from behind. The host Indians led 17-12 entering the final quarter.

Alex Gentry rushed for 120 yards and a seven-yard TD while George Hinkle III had 180 passing yards and scored on a three-yard TD run for Pacific. Also for the Indians Austin Mathis had a 36-yard field goal.
Pacific returns to Four Rivers Conference play this Friday at Hermann.

Waynesville 35, Glendale 7: In Ozark Conference action at Springfield, the Waynesville Tigers bounced back from a one-point loss in their opener by dominating the Glendale Falcons. Waynesville is 1-1 overall and in the league while Glendale falls to 0-2 both overall and in the OC.

Waynesville scored on five of its first six possessions and finished with a balanced 318 yards of total offense -- 165 passing and 153 rushing.

Jacob McVay rushed for 45 yards and had TD runs of two and one yard for the Tigers while quarterback James Holler was 8-for-13 with 111 yards and a TD. Damian Fadl caught five passes for 64 yards, including a 10-yard TD toss.

Also for the Tigers Calvin Rhodes had a seven-yard TD run and Payton Finch had a 20-yard scoring run.

The Falcon offense was limited to just 116 yards, including 51 rushing.

The lone Glendale TD was a nine-yard keeper by QB Jake Ray in the fourth quarter.

Waynesville is slated to host Springfield Parkview in league action this coming Friday.

Lebanon 17, Hillcrest 6: In Ozark Conference play at Lebanon, after standout Hillcrest receiver Dorial Green struck for a 38-yard TD reception to open the scoring in the first period, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Hornets 17-0 the rest of the way. Lebanon quarterback

Cole Matlock passed for 289 yards, including TD tosses of 67 yards and six yards.

Lebanon opened its scoring with a 30-yard field goal and added the Matlock bomb in the first quarter to take a 10-6 lead. Austin Harris’ TD reception in the second period gave Lebanon a 17-6 advantage at halftime. There was no scoring in the second half.

Green caught six passes for 123 yards. Hillcrest had no net rushing yards.

Camdenton 30, Parkview 0: In Ozark Conference play at Springfield, the Camdenton Lakers shut down a Parkview attack that put up 35 points against Rolla the previous week.
The Lakers got 14 points in the first period and eight in each of the second and third periods.

Camdenton quarterback Spencer Carlock passed for 97 yards, including TD passes of 10 yards to Jon Manning and four yards to Cayden Shockley. M. Ward broke off a 50-yard TD run for the Lakers, 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Fullback Blake Williams had 56 rushing yards for Parkview, now 0-2 both overall and in the league.
