Scoring two goals in the first 11 minutes of play the Rolla High School boys’ soccer team went on to stop Springfield Parkview 4-1 Tuesday on Kiwanis Field at the Bray Sports Complex.
It was the Ozark Conference opener for the Bulldogs, now 4-1 overall.
Rolla wasted little time jumping on top, as senior Kyle Keebey scored in front of the net on a pass from junior Kory Carter.
Two minutes later senior Nathan Fraley scored unassisted to make it 2-0.
Keebey recorded his second goal of the game at the 26th minute off Blayne Shockley’s serve.
Parkview’s Alex Blanco scored off a free kick with 30 seconds remaining in the first half to cut its halftime deficit to 3-1.
Shockley, a senior, got the game’s final goal in the 49th minute.
Seniors Dan McCadden and Zack Barnes shared time in goal for the Bulldogs.
Rolla also won the junior varsity game 5-0. The jayvee Bulldogs improve their record to 5-0.
Ryan Cunningham, Zack Huddleston, Jay Zalis, Nick Mills and Trey Jernigan each scored a goal for the jayvee Bulldogs. Caleb Florence was credited with two assists and Caleb Patton and Cunningham each had one assist.
Jordan Outlaw and Trey Jernigan shared time in goal in the jayvee contest.
Next up for Rolla is a showdown with the Jefferson City Jays tonight at Jefferson City. The jayvee game is to begin at 5 p.m. with the varsity contest to follow.
The game is a rematch of last year’s sectional game, which the Jays won 3-0.
“I’m excited to see where we stand in the game with Jefferson City,” said RHS head coach Mike Howard. “Their early scores and the players they have returning from last season’s team show they may be the team to beat in central Missouri. They are always solid on defense and can keep the ball about as well as anyone around. It should be a great test for us.”
