Rolla eighth-grade boys win in first round

The Rolla Junior High School eighth-grade boys’ basketball team defeated Camdenton 56-33 Monday in the first round of the Rolla Invitational at the Rolla Junior High gym.

Rolla, now 10-4, will play Jefferson City Lewis & Clark at 7:45 p.m. today in the tournament semifinals.

Newburg improves to 4-12 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

In a Ozark Conference battle, both the Rolla and Lebanon high school boys’ basketball teams struggled putting the ball in the basket on Tuesday.
However, the host Bulldogs turned up the defensive intensity to help make mini-runs in the second and third periods hold up, posting a 46-34 victory over the Lebanon Yellow Jackets.

The Newburg High School boys’ basketball team staged a second-half rally to beat Owensville 38-34 in non-conference play on Monday.

Owensville led 10-5 after one period and took a 21-13 advantage into halftime.

Rolla's Heimbaugh signs with East Central

Senior Megan Heimbaugh of Rolla High School on Saturday, Jan. 21 signed a letter of intent to attend and play softball at East Central College.

East Central is a junior college located at Union, Mo. Heimbaugh, a four-year starter at shortstop for the RHS Lady Bulldogs, had decided before her senior campaign that she would attend East Central and find out what level of colligate softball she will compete at before transferring to a four-year school.

Several promotions at S&T games in February

Missouri S&T will have several promotional events taking place during its home basketball games throughout the month of February as it wraps up its schedule for the 2011-12 campaign.

The promotions are highlighted by Saturday's Fort Leonard Wood/Military Appreciation Day at Billy Key Court and the opportunity to win an IPad2, courtesy of the Missouri S&T Bookstore, at the Miners’ Feb. 18 doubleheader against William Jewell College.

RHS wrestlers split meets in Springfield

The Rolla High School wrestling team split a triangular varsity meet on Thursday at Springfield Hillcrest.

Against the No. 4-ranked team in Missouri Class 3, Neosho, the RHS Bulldogs had no success, falling 71-0. And against Ozark Conference rival Hillcrest, Rolla posted a 51-22 victory.
