Several members of the Rolla High School boys’ soccer team have been named to the Class 3 District 10 and Ozark Conference teams.

The Bulldogs finished the season with a 12-8-2 record, advancing to the championship game of the district tournament before losing 1-0 in two overtimes to Camdenton in the title game. RHS also finished third in the Ozark Conference race.

RHS players selected to the all-district first team were junior midfielder Jason Howard, senior back Nathan Fraley and senior midfielder Cody Martin. Bulldogs on the second team were senior forward Kyle Keebey, junior midfielder David Drewniak and senior back Chris Sanders. Honorable mention selections were senior midfielder Blayne Shockley, senior midfielder Joel Laney and sophomore back Miles Wilson.

Fraley was co-district defensive player of the year, along with Waynesville’s Gehrig Haberstock.

The district MVP was Camdenton’s Jeff Dorhauer while Camdenton’s Rayder Bennett was the district’s offensive player of the year.

Waynesville’s Mike Armstrong was named the district coach of the year.

Rolla players named to the All-Ozark Conference First Team were Fraley and Howard while Martin and Keebey were second-team selections and Sanders and Drewniak were all-league honorable mention.

Dorhauer was named Ozark Conference Player of the Year while Camdenton’s Jason Ingold was the league coach of the year.

Keebey had 14 goals and four assists this season while Martin had 10 goals and 10 assists; Howard nine goals and four assists, and Shockley seven goals and six assists.

For the second straight year Rolla High School will host a four-team Key Sport Tip-Off boys’ and girls’ basketball event to begin the 2009-10 basketball season on Saturday, Nov. 28.

The boys’ and girls’ varsity and junior varsity teams from the Rolla, Salem, Northwest and Clayton schools will participate in the season-opening event.

Games will be played in the Rolla High School main and practice gyms. Cost is $3 for persons age 6-up. All teams and spectators are asked to enter through the main gym entrance, located in the lower parking lot.

Doors will open at 11 a.m.

Home teams will wear white uniforms; visitors will were dark uniforms.

“We are excited to host the second year of the Key Sport Tip-Off,” said RHS Athletic Director Kelly Hinshaw. “We feel it is a good way for the communities of Rolla and Salem to start the high school basketball season. It gives fans the opportunity to support both the boys’ and girls’ programs and see a couple of teams that they might normally not see.”

The Rolla High School fall sports awards program will be held Thursday, Nov. 19 at RHS.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 19 in the RHS gym. Later the individual RHS fall sports will split up into various rooms to award their respective awards.

The public is invited to attend.

Hi-Tech Collision defeated Hillbillies 3 games to 2: 10-15, 15-9, 15-0, 8-15, and 15-9. Joanie McEnaney had 16 service points to lead Hi-Tech Collision to victory. Hillbilles was led by Laura Parsons with 19 service points.

Block Party defeated Rewind 3 games to 0: 15-11, 15-9, and 15-11.  Lindsey Fischer led Block Party with 15 service points. Rewind was led by Autumn Kolkmeier with 9 service points.

Beaver Slap defeated Roger Vaughn Photography 3 games to 0: 15-12, 15-4, and 15-3. Jessie Stice led Beaver Slap with 10 service points. Roger Vaughn Photography was led by Shelby Dorf with 7 service points.

Pancake defeated WJVC 3 games to 0: 15-0. 15-0, and 15-0.
In-Motion defeated Beaver Slap 3 games to 0: 15-3, 15-3 and 15-4. Megan Goris had 13 service points to lead In-Motion to victory. Randi Livesay scored 5 service points for Beaver Slap.

Ace Inhibitors defeated the Underdogs 3 games to 1: 15-9, 15-10, 13-15, and 15-6. Annie Smith scored 19 service points to lead Ace Inhibitors to victory. Travis Squire had 10 service points for the Underdogs.

In winter men’s recreational basketball league results from Nov. 11, it was:

Wii Blood defeated Mid-Missouri Pain Clinic 47-36. Doug Cuneio led Wii Blood to victory with 18 points. Mid-Missouri Pain Clinic was led by Brian Snyders with 15 points.

Burns Army Surplus defeated Ellis Flooring/Forrest City Footware 43-40. Burns Army Surplus was led to victory by Damon Gideon with 13 points. Spencer King and Finus Smith led Ellis Flooring/Forrest City Footware with 9 points each.

There’s no telling how many games the Missouri S&T men’s basketball team will win this season.
But if they play as hard as they played in Monday’s season-opener, the Miners figure to win their fair share...and will be pretty fun to watch.

In the opener for both teams the Miners pushed highly-touted Harding to the limit before falling 75-70 in non-conference action at the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.

No one on the Miner bench really knew what to expect in the opener, mixing in six newcomers and dealing with a slew of preseason injuries in Jim Glash’s first year as head coach.
What Glash got was 40 minutes of high-energy.

Harding is coming off an 18-win season and last week split a pair of exhibition games against NCAA Division I mid-major teams, including a win over Arkansas-Little Rock.

The game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than seven points. The lead changed hands 10 times and there were nine ties.

The Miners return to action over the weekend at Pittsburg, Kan. in the Pittsburg State Classic. On Friday S&T plays Missouri Southern at 5 p.m. and on Saturday the Miners take on host Pittsburg State at 7 p.m.

Rolla High School's cross country team wrapped up its season. Austin Lohr was a Missouri Class 4 State Championships qualifier. Stephen Kofoed qualified for the sectional meet.

One thing was obvious during the Missouri S&T women’s basketball team’s dress rehearsal Saturday afternoon: The Lady Miners can shoot.

The new-look Lady Miners used a big second half to rally past the Livin’ the Dream exhibition team 95-80 Saturday at the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.

It was the lone S&T exhibition before officially opening the season next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-21, in the Lady Miner Tip-Off Classic at the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. On Friday S&T will play Upper Iowa at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 21 the Lady Miners host Wayne State at 3 p.m.
Working several new players into the rotation, Alan Eads watched as his squad fell behind by as much as 12 points in the first half Saturday afternoon. S&T then began to whittle away until finally taking the lead midway through the second half.

Livin’ the Dream, based in the Kansas City area, got a three-point field goal from 6-1 forward Andrea Haegele at the 13:54 mark of the first half to take a 13-10 lead. S&T would trail the rest of the half.

The Missouri S&T football team closed out the 2009 season Saturday by winning for the fourth time in five weeks, using a 17-point burst late in the second quarter to post a 34-14 win over Kentucky Wesleyan in Great Lakes Football Conference play.

Missouri S&T finished the 2009 season with a record of 4-7 and won their season finale for the fifth straight year. S&T finished 2-1 in the league.

After seeing an early 14-0 lead get wiped out on a pair of KWC touchdown passes, the Miners regained the lead on Clay Kinman's first career touchdown catch with 2:13 left in the first half.

The Miners got a field goal from Joe Drahos with two seconds left in the half to extend the lead to 10, then Mark Hopkins intercepted a Hail Mary pass on the Panthers’ final play and returned it 96 yards for a touchdown to give S&T a 31-14 lead at the end of the half.

S&T scored on each of its first two possessions of the contest, scoring on the game’s opening possession on a 13-yard scoring pass from Jason Schlueter to Bryan Crider and again with just under two minutes left in the period on another Schluter-to-Crider scoring pass that covered two yards.

The Missouri S&T women’s basketball team will give a sneak peek of its revamped lineup during exhibition action Saturday afternoon.

And one of the most interested persons looking on will be head coach Alan Eads.

The Lady Miners take to Billy Key Court at the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building on Saturday to take on the Livin’ The Dream squad in exhibition action, starting at 3 p.m.

Prior to the exhibition contest a large number of former Lady Miners return to Rolla for the S&T Alumni Game, starting at 1 p.m.

It’s the lone exhibition game before S&T officially opens the season by hosting the Lady Miner Tip-Off Classic Nov. 20-21.

Six members of the Rolla High School softball team has been selected to the 2009 All-Ozark Conference Team.

The team was selected by the league head coaches Wednesday night.

Rolla players named to the all-league first team were sophomore outfielder Maegen Shults, sophomore shortstop Megan Heimbaugh, sophomore first baseman Heather Jones and freshman pitcher Andrea Zalis.

Lady Bulldog second-team all-conference selections included senior second baseman Kylie Croft and freshman catcher Shakira Gonzalez.

In a game full of more turning points than one could shake a penalty flag at, the final one simply came down to a lucky bounce.

The Rolla Bulldogs got one to bounce their way in the third overtime period. They were not as fortunate in the fourth overtime period.

Aaron Hummert’s 24-yard field goal in the fourth overtime stood as the game-winning points after Rolla’s field goal try later in the fourth OT hit the crossbar and every-so-narrowly bounded away, leaving the host Parkway North High School football team with a 38-35 marathon victory over Rolla Monday night in the Missouri Class 5 Sectionals.

The game, the longest in Bulldog history, ended a banner campaign for Rolla at 10-2. The 10 victories is tied for the second-best season total in program history.

Parkway North, 9-1, and ranked No. 4 in the latest Missouri Class 5 state poll, will play Parkway Central (10-2) in Class 5 Quarterfinal play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Louis.

This time of year Missouri out-state football head coaches walk a fine line when they take on rarely-seen in-state opposition with big-time reputations in the playoffs.

That’s the situation that the Rolla High School football team’s coaching staff has been in the past few days in preparing for the Parkway North Vikings in tonight’s Missouri Class 5 Sectionals.

Yes, the Parkway North Vikings are good. Real good. They’re ranked No. 4 in the latest state poll and their only loss of the season was by a single touchdown to the state’s No. 1-ranked team. Athletically they’ll be as good as anyone the Rolla Bulldogs have played this fall.

But...the Bulldogs are pretty good, too. The Vikings put their pads on the same way the Bulldogs do.

And, as the Waynesville Tigers proved a few times during their 2007 state-championship run, a good Ozark Conference team can beat a good city team.

The Bulldogs get their chance to prove that again tonight.

Rolla (10-1) travels to the St. Louis suburb of Creve Coeur tonight to take on Parkway North (8-1) in Class 5 Sectional action (7 p.m. kickoff).

The winner of the Rolla-Parkway North game will meet the Timberland (9-1)/Parkway Central (9-2) winner in Class 5 Quarterfinal play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. If Rolla wins tonight it will host the quarterfinal game Saturday at Lions Memorial Field.

Rolla advanced to the sectional round by beating Washington 28-21 last Wednesday in regional play at Washington. Parkway North won its district championship and got a first-round playoff bye.

Last November, the Missouri S&T football team denied Southwest Baptist a chance at finishing with a winning record by beating SBU in its season finale.

The Bearcats turned the tables on the Miners Saturday, avenging last year's 40-point loss to S&T with a 54-13 win at SBU’s Plaster Stadium to end the Miners' three-game winning streak.

After the teams traded touchdowns in the first quarter, the host Bearcats rattled off 48 unanswered points to secure their first winning season since 2001. They got the win largely on the performance of quarterback Steve Gachette, who racked 570 yards of total offense by himself of the 696 accumulated by SBU Saturday.

The Miners will wrap up the 2009 season next Saturday at Kentucky Wesleyan at 1 p.m. The Panthers won for the second time on the year today with a 21-6 victory at Lincoln.
