U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill applauded America’s veterans for their sacrifice and service to our country. Her comments followed a conference call with leaders from Missouri’s veteran community.

On the call, she thanked them for their work to improve the lives of veterans of the past, present and future. She offered a briefing of recent accomplishments and key veteran’s funding measures in Congress, pledging to do her part to continue work on behalf of veterans in the U.S. Senate.

“As we approach the Veterans Day holiday and all of us take time to respect and honor our veterans, I also want to express how much I appreciate the service and the sacrifice the leaders of Missouri’s veteran’s community have made as veterans to our country and the sacrifices they continue to make as they serve veterans in our state and communities in this terrific calling.

"Missourians are good people who have strong values and one of the strong values they hold very dear is a high regard for the military and I’m proud to be from a state that embraces that value.”

During the call, McCaskill listened as veteran’s group leaders discussed issues impacting Missouri’s veterans including a problematic claims process at the Veterans Administration, difficulty veteran-owned, small businesses are facing in getting loans from banks, problems with the survivor benefit program for military widows, ongoing challenges with veteran homelessness, and the seamless transition of wounded veterans from military ranks to civilian life.

McCaskill offered perspectives on these issues and legislation impacting them in the Senate while also pledging to continue fighting for the needs of Missouri’s veterans.  She also praised the leadership of the veterans’ organizations for their recent collaboration in conducting a 21 city “Listening Post” tour in the State and for their renewed efforts at working together collectively for the cause of Missouri veterans.
