For a family getaway in August, Gov. Matt Blunt suggests a visit to the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.
Blunt describes the State Fair as an affordable way for Missourians to enjoy family entertainment and learn more about the exciting innovations in Missouri agriculture.
“It is the fair that is the premier showcase for the jewel that is Missouri agriculture. It is at the fair that our agricultural producers demonstrate their innovation and fairgoers can view and sample the value-added products that our farmers are growing and producing right here in Missouri,” said Blunt.
The State Fair will begin Aug. 7 with an opening day ceremony and a parade, all for an opening day ticket price of $1. The ten days that follow will offer countless fair attractions that will make for a fun near-fornight for all members of the family.
With the price of gasoline being what it is, Blunt is also suggesting that Missourians may want to consider vacations closer to home--such as a visit to the State Fair.
This year’s State Fair marks the 106th year of the fair.

SEARCH COMMITTEE: Two persons with connections to the Missouri S&T campus have been named members of a search committee to identify candidates for the position of UM System vice president for academic and student affairs.
Included among University of Missouri President Gary Forsee’s committee choices are Beth Groenke, an undergraduate student at Missouri S&T and formerly president of the Student Council, and Dr. Warren Kent Wray, provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs at Missouri S&T.
The position to be filled is now held by Dr. Steve Graham, an interim serving in place of Dr. Stephen Lehtnkukle, who is now chancellor of the University of Minnesota-Rochester.
CARNIVAL TIME: Metro Business College, off Highway 72 next to Gordoz, will host a carnival from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, July 26.
The agenda: Games, food, fun.
The carnival at Metro is being sponsored by the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) organization to help raise funds for its student chapter at Metro.
“With these funds, our students will be able to take their Certified Professional Secretary Exam or Certified Administrative Professional Exam, a school official said. “These exams can help our graduates with job advancement, salary, professional skills, self esteem and college credits. Passing these exams will give our students the extra edge they need to succeed in today’s business world.”
