Hulshof’s fundraising going better than Steelman’s

Kenny Hulshof raised four times as much money in campaign contributions as Sarah Steelman in the second quarter of 2008 which ended June 30.
The two are battling for the Republican nomination for governor in the Aug. 5 primary election.
In the second quarter, Hulshof raised $1,482,193.94. During the same period, Steelman raised$289,440.
Hulshof reports he has $1,149,641.08 in cash on hand while Steelman reports she has $711,055.02 in the bank.
Democrat Jay Nixon is saving most of his money for the general election campaign for governor. He reports he has $3,754,169.52 in the bank.
Also this week, Hulshof was endorsed by Lt. Gov.  Peter Kinder, also a Republican, over Steelman.
For candidates closer to home, Friends of Kent Mace, a committee supporting Kent Mace for county surveyor, reports it has $169 in its campaign bank account.
Friends for Wilson, the committee supporting the candidacy of Don E. Wilson for county commissioner, reports it has $570.64 in its campaign bank account. The Wilson committee has aleady spent $4,459.36 during the campaign. It has paid Splash Design $908.14; Scotts Printing $642.78; Splash Design another $807, and Splash Design another $322.80.
Citizens to Elect Craig Lonning Commissioner said it has spent $1,352.32 to date and still has $380.70 on hand. The committee has received contributions as follows: Joe and Angel Johnson, Rolla, $300; Lindsey Smith, St. James, $100; Scott Flett, Rolla, $100; Ben and Hillary Smith, St. James, $100, and Barb Smith, St. James, $100.
The Lonning committee has spent $365.84 with Century Signs; $230 with the St. James Booster Club, and $418.46 with Premium Graphicx in Houston, TX.
Citizens for Don Blankenship for sheriff reports it has $578.40 in money on hand.
Also, the committee has received the following contributions: $150 from Pat Young, of Rolla; $250 from King Auto Glass, of Rolla, and $320 from Wanda Crain, of Rolla. It spent $391.60 for bumper stickers from Votes Unlimited of Ferndale, NY.

FUND RAISER: The First Assembly of God Church Youth Group will host a fund-raising pancake breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Saturday at the church, 1608 Oak St.
Tickets are $6.
The youth group will use the proceeds to help finance a youth group outing.

SECOND FUNDRAISER: A second fundraiser, this one for Dwayne Humphrey, who is scheduled to have major surgery, will be held beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at the Rolla Eagles Lodge, Highway 63 North.
The Humphrey Brothers Big River Band will be performing.
Said an Eagles spokesperson, “Come on out and bring your appetites. Come join the good ole boys and have a great time. Dwayne is having major surgery so let’s raise some money to help out the Humphreys! We’ll have a fish fry, auctions, raffles and 50/50s.”
Tickets are $5 and include the fish fry. Covered dishes will be very much appreciated.
