Members of the Rolla Rotary Club gave up at least a half day Saturday, July 12, to continue to make improvements to one of its adopted projects, the Rolla Community Park located in the Bray Sports Complex at Tenth and Holloway Streets.
It could have been called Mulch Day for most of the work that Saturday consisted of speading mounds and mounds of mulch.
The Rotarians have been working on the park since 2005 when it decided to make the park work its centennial project.
TAKE A STAND: Today--Saturday--is the second of two big days that make up Phelps County Bank’s Take a Stand Against Child Abuse.
This is the 13th annual Take a Stand fundraiser and awareness campaign that was created by PCB President Bill Marshall and his associates at the bank.
As I am sure you noticed around town Friday, there are more than 40 stands selling bottled lemonade and water. The money raised, as it has been for 13 years, is used for projects aimed at preventing child abuse in Phelps County.
Fully 100 percent of the money raised is put to work in Phelps County.
Jodi Layman, a project coordinator, said more than $30,000 was raised during Take a Stand in 2007.
In addition to Phelps County Bank’s sponsorship, corporate sponsors this year include the Bond Clinic, Boys & Girls Town of Missouri, Brewer Science, Inc., For Your Convenience, Dr. Mitch Esquibel (DDS), Phelps County Regional Medical Center and St. John’s Clinic.
In-kind contributors include Baker’s Ice, Grellner Sales, The Centre and Pepsi Cola of Rolla.
Special recognition this year goes to Tessa Hartley, age 5, who won the Take a Stand poster contest.
As you are going about your Saturday, please take a moment to purchase a bottle or two of lemonade or water and Take a Stand Against Child Abuse!!
