Shopping is something that we all must do some time during the week or the month.  You have heard the  Chamber state that it is important to shop locally but most people don’t know WHY it is important to do so.
Shopping locally is more than just a slogan; it is a necessity for the survival of any community.
Shopping local is always a good idea but now more than ever with today’s economy.
We need to remember that we can do our part to ensure that our community continues to prosper and grow.  This can simply be done by shopping locally every chance we get.  When you decide to shop locally, you are not only helping to sustain and grow business in the area, but you are fueling our economy from both an investment and employment perspective.
When shopping locally, you simultaneously create jobs, fund more city services through sales tax, invest in neighborhood improvement and promote community development.  Shopping locally enhances our quality of life through city provided services like police and fire, street maintenance, street lights and parks.
You also show your support of the community and loyalty to the businesses and other entities that make our city a wonderful place to work and live.  One thing to remember is every purchase made outside Rolla benefits another city’s quality of life.  Take for example the following:
“If you have a fire, you need help and you need it quickly. Every time you shop in Rolla two and a half cents of every dollar goes to keep our city government running — including our Fire Department. When you spend your dollars elsewhere, your money goes to equip somebody else’s Fire Department. Be smart and Shop Rolla first. It helps you and it helps your neighbors.”
Let’s all do our part to support our local businesses.  Remember these things when you are thinking of your next shopping experience.
