Rolla, Mo. -

U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, whose district includes Phelps County, reminded again over the weekend that 25 percent, or 113,147, of Missouri residents who are enrolled in Social Security or receiving benefits from the Veterans Administration have not satisfied the requirement to receive an economic stimulus check from the federal government.
Of those, 64 percent are 65 years of age or older and 96 percent are Social Security beneficiaries.
It is simple to qualify for the special payment.
Qualifying income includes any combination of earned income, nontaxable combat pay as well as certain payments from Social Security, Veterans Affairs and Railroad Retirement.
People not otherwise required to file an income tax return should file Form 1040A with basic information to ensure they receive the economic stimulus payment.
