James Richard “Jim” Small, of Rolla, passed away at his home on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at the age of 80.
He was born in Illinois on Sept. 4, 1929, to the late William M. and Merle (Burns) Small.
On June 4, 1960, he married Marie D. York, who survives.
Mr. Small was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served for 23 years retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He then served as a Rolla Police officer for several years and later worked for the Powell Lumber Company in Rolla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Jerry Small.
He will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his wife, Marie Small, of the home; four children, Jim M. Small, of Rolla, Lois Hughes and husband Terry, of St. James, Linda Dixon and Charlotte Laramee, both of Florida; one brother, Joseph Small and wife Pat, of Illinois; 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other extended family members and many dear friends.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Rolla Lions Club.
All arrangements are under the direction of the Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla.
