Robert Gordon Jones Sr. of Rolla passed quietly at home June 17, 2009 after numerous struggles with heart disease and liver cancer.
Bob was born in Maple Wood, Mo., before attending school in Jefferson City. Bob went on to become a prominent activist in local politics and a successful entrepreneur.
Bob was one of four children born to the late William H. Jones Sr. and Louis H. Miller and was the beloved husband of Elaine Jones for 45 wonderful years. Bob will forever be remembered by his devoted brother, William H. Jones Jr., and beloved children Robert G. Miller, Ronald G. Miller, Maria E. Gardner, and Rosemary K. Jones.
Bob was treasured by his 14 grandchildren and his 7 great grandchildren, along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him. Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father and his two sisters, Dorothy and Beverly.
Bob was a professional photographer and, as an avid Democrat, found much joy in his involvement with local and national politics. Bob found his greatest joys in sharing his wisdom and spending time with friends and family. Bob touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor and closeness to family all the way to the end.
Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing on Sunday, June 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at James and Gahr Mortuary, 1651 E. Hwy 72, Rolla.
