Ray Dean Spencer Sr., 88, of Hallsville, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017 at Boone Hospital Center.
Friends will be received from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 at the Liberty Baptist Church, 4761 N Brown Station Road. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Bruce Caldwell officiating. Interment with full military honors will be private for the family.
He was born Dec. 20, 1928 in Greeley, Kan., the son of the late Frank and Hazel (Guinn) Spencer. On July 21, 1951, he was united in marriage to Naomi Joyce Bennett. She preceded him in death.
Ray was a graduate of Gardner Kansas High School. Ray served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and then with the United States Army during the Korean War.
He started his career as a lineman with Kansas City Power and Light. He then began working as a lineman for Columbia Power and Light where he retired as a lineman foreman after 37 1/2 years of service.
Ray attended Liberty Baptist Church. He was a founding member of the Columbia Sportsman Club, 63-year member of the Neosho Masonic Lodge #27 in LeRoy, Kan. and a member of the V.F.W. Post 280 Columbia.
Ray lived and breathed hunting. He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. He and his brother Chester were able to travel to the Northwest Territory in 1969 for big game hunting.
He is survived by son, Ray Dean Spencer Jr. (Barbara) of Hallsville; daughter, Sandra Claycamp (Kevin) of Hallsville; brother, Chester Spencer of Virginia; sister, Leah Snow (Wayne) of Ottawa, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Along with his wife Naomi, he is preceded in death by sister, Joyce Goodrich.
