Living history programs will highlight the schedule of programs
commemorating the 148th anniversary of the Battle of Wilson’s Creek on
Saturday, Sunday and Monday, August 8, 9 and 10.

The role of Missouri State Guard in the battle will be featured during
special weapons firing demonstrations and drill at tour road stop 5.  Up to
twenty volunteers will present programs at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on
Saturday and 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The Edward’s Cabin on the
Wire Road will also be open with volunteers setting up a field camp at
historic site of General Sterling Price’s headquarters.

In addition, programs on photography in the Civil War will be presented at
the Ray House at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.  Mr. Douglas
Harding from St. Louis will exhibit a photographer’s wagon and photography
equipment.

Volunteers will also provide tours of the historic Ray House which will be
open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

At 10 a.m. on Monday, August 10, the 148th battle anniversary program will
take place in front of the visitor center.  The featured speaker is Mr.
David C. Hinze, author of The Battle of Carthage:  Border War in Southwest
Missouri.

A reception and refreshments provided by the Wilson’s Creek
National Battlefield Foundation will be served in the visitor center
immediately following the program.

Between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. living
history presentations about the common soldier at Wilson’s Creek will be
presented at the visitor center.  Admission fees are waived on August 10.

Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield preserves the site of the August 10,
1861 battle for control of Missouri during the early months of the Civil
War.  The bloody Southern victory here focused national attention on the
crisis in Missouri, leading to greater federal military action. For
additional information, call 417-732-2662.
