Officials with the 2009 Tour of Missouri are pleased to announce a partnership with Amtrak and to encourage regional cycling fans to “ride the rails to the race.”

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Amtrak aboard the 2009 Tour of Missouri,” said Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, chairman of the Missouri Tourism Commission, which is the race’s presenting sponsor. “Taking the train is a great way for spectators to travel to the race, and it is a privilege to add Amtrak to the impressive list of event sponsors.”

An official Amtrak locomotive horn will signal the start of each stage of the race. Through local radio contests, cycling enthusiasts in Denver, Milwaukee and Kansas City will have the chance to win roundtrip Amtrak tickets, complete with sleeper car accommodations (Denver only) or business class if available.

“Amtrak is proud to support the 2009 Tour of Missouri,” said Anne McGinnis, with Amtrak marketing.  “We encourage fans to ride the rails to the race, and look forward to being part of another successful event.”

The race’s leader board, which features daily updates on all jersey standings and overall race results, will be presented by Amtrak.
