The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that Judith I. Twente, 68, of St. James was killed in a car accident shortly after noon Friday.

According to the MSHP, the accident occurred as Twente, the driver of a 2004 Dodge Ram, merged onto the westbound lane of Interstate 44 from the rest area at  mile maker 236 and began to slide on the wet pavement. Twente over-corrected and the undercarriage of the truck hit the pavement. The truck overturned off the left side of the road, coming to rest on its roof.

Dominique M. Gilliam, 25, Blake A. Gilliam, 6, and Lucas R. Gilliam, 4, all of Rolla  — passengers in the truck — were transported to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan by St. Clair ambulance. The two children are both reported to have minor injuries, while Dominique Gilliam's injuries are described as serious.

Twente — the only one in the truck not wearing a seatbelt — was pronounced dead on the scene by St. Clair ambulance personel at 12:14 p.m.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
