A 36-year-old man from Pevely is free on $250,000 bond after turning himself in to face five charges of sexual misconduct involving a child.
Kevin Joseph Williams, voluntarily surrendered himself to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department on of Feb. 2 after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Williams is charged with four counts of statutory sodomy and one count of sexual misconduct. Williams is accused of engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with a female under the age of 15 on two separate occasions at a residence in Pulaski County. During one of those, the victim alleged her cell phone was on and a friend heard the events as they took place.
Detectives interviewed two individuals who corroborated the victims statements. Cell phone records were also examined for dates and times, according to information provided by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff JB King said the investigation was prompted by a report form the Missouri Department of Family Services. Once the sheriff's department was notified, the investigation was turned over to the Pulaski County Special Victims Unit, he said.
According to the report, Williams declined to be interviewed by a detective before speaking with his attorney.
King said detectives turned the report on the allegations over to the Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney's office on Jan. 31 requesting charges.
The Pulaski County Special Victims Unit is composed of detectives who are reserve deputy volunteers. King said they are only able to work criminal cases after their primary job requirements are completed. Because of the time constraints, investigations the unit handles may take more time to complete.
