Charges were filed in the Phelps County court Wednesday against a homeless man who is accused of raping a Rolla woman in early January.
Cory Stimel, 20, of Rolla, has been charged with forcible rape and forcible sodomy, both of which are unclassified felonies.
Rolla Police Department investigators said they are not prepared to release any additional information regarding the case, as the investigation is ongoing. Court documents indicate Stimel was, at least, acquainted with the reported victim.
The probable case statement written by RPD Det. Derrick Dillon and filed with the court says Stimel came to the woman’s home “to visit her whereas she allowed him in her bedroom.”
According to the statement, it was in her bedroom where Stimel is accused of forcing himself on the alleged victim.
The document does not indicate whether police have forensic evidence against Stimel, such as DNA evidence, but it does detail two text messages between Stimel and the woman.
According to the document, the first of those messages is from Stimel and asks the alleged victim if she is going to put him in jail.
The second message may give more insight into the incident. It also came from Stimel, and indicates he was trying to impregnate the woman.
“He sent a text message stating he did not know what he was thinking, and he just wanted a family,” Dillon wrote.
According to the documents, police have not interviewed Stimel although they have made contact with him.
Dillon wrote that police first contacted Stimel by phone on Jan. 12, and he told investigators he would come in and speak to them. He called back two hours later saying he would speak to investigators the following day with his attorney present, but did not.
A warrant for Stimel’s arrest was signed by Associate Circuit Court Judge Ronald White Thursday morning, assigning Stimel a $250,000 bond.
As of Thursday afternoon, Stimel had not been arrested.
