More than $248,000 in National Forest and railroad receipts was apportioned on Tuesday to Phelps County school districts and the county’s Road and Bridge Department.
From a total of $248,139 in state-disbursed funds, $125,456 was forwarded to Phelps County in National Forest receipts; $94,932 in National Forest mineral receipts and $27,750 was received in “private-car” (railroad) taxes, according to an order prepared by Phelps County Clerk Carol Bennett.
Fifteen percent of the National Forest receipts were distributed to the Road and Bridge Title III Fund; 25 percent, or $31,364, went to the Road & Bridge Fund, and the school districts located within the National Forest area received 75 percent of the total, an aggregate amount of $94,092. Rolla, Newburg, Phelps County R-3 and Texas County 81/R-8 all received a portion of the disbursement.
Total National Forest mineral receipts of $94,931 were disbursed at 25 percent to the Road and Bridge Fund and 75 percent to the school districts located within the National Forest area: Rolla 31; Newburg R-2; Phelps County R-3; Texas County 81/R-8.
More than $27,000 in private-car, or railroad, taxes that were assessed and collected by the state were distributed by Phelps County to school districts and the County Revenue Fund. The Revenue Fund received $8,325, and the school districts of Rolla, St. James, Newburg, Dent/Phelps, Dixon, Phelps County and Texas County received an aggregate total of $19,425. Rolla received the largest share at $12,044.
