Five official race jerseys were unveiled Tuesday by the Tour of Missouri, the seven-day professional bicycle stage race across the Show Me State, to be held Sept. 8-14.
More than 120 of the best cyclists in the world will compete every day for the right to wear one of these special jerseys, which will be adorned with sponsor logos and colors on each side, and awarded in a stage presentation at the end of each stage.
Rolla is the finish for Stage Four and St. James is the start for Stage Five.
“These jerseys represent the pre-eminent awards provided to the athletes,” said Chris Aronhalt, managing partner of Medalist Sports, the event’s organizers.
“These five jerseys will represent daily the race’s leader, top sprinter, top climber, best young rider and cyclist who provides undeniable effort.
In addition, the Tour’s top sponsors are integrated into the brilliant designs, providing top billing and affiliation with these elite athletes.”
The Missouri Tourism Leader Jersey or “yellow jersey,” will go to the cyclist who is first in the general classification by having the least overall accumulated time at the end of each stage.
The athlete who pulls this jersey on concluding in St. Louis will be the winner of the 2008 Tour of Missouri.  In 2007, American George Hincapie (Columbia) took the lead in Stage Two and wore the yellow jersey all the way to the Gateway Arch.
The Edward Jones Sprint Jersey, or green “points jersey” is up for contention at sprint lines set up all through the race, resulting in several exciting dashes for the line during each stage. The athlete with the most points earned at each spint line will don the green jersey at the end of the day.
In 2007, the jersey was well-deserved by Cuba’s Ivan Dominguez (Toyota-United Pro Cycling), who won both the first and last stages of the Tour of Missouri.
The Michelob Ultra King of the Mountain (KOM) Jersey is a blue jersey earned by being the fastest up the mountains.  There will be more than 10 opportunities to win points toward this jersey at the Tour this year.
American Jeff Louder (Team BMC) won the Michelob Ultra KOM jersey at the 2007 Tour as member of the HealthNet presented by MAXXIS team last year.
The THF Realty Best Young Rider Jersey will adorn the best under-25 athlete in the race; that is, the athlete who is highest in the general classification.
American Steven Cozza (Garmin-Chipotle) took over the white jersey on Stage Three of the 2007 Tour of Missouri and kept it all the way through the race.
The Drury Hotels Most Aggressive Jersey is awarded to the rider judged to have attacked or greatly assisted their teammates during each stage.
“These sponsors are great supporters of the race, and have very high visibility, it’s a win-win partnership,“ said Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder.  “These are all great Missouri-based companies, and we’re very proud to have them displayed in such a marquee fashion.”
For the second consecutive year, the official jersey supplier is Hincapie Sportswear of Greenville, S.C.  Hincapie Sportswear designed the leader’s jerseys and an official commemorative jersey, also.
“It’s a bit ironic, but George Hincapie was the race winner last year and his brother’s company is the official jersey sponsor of the tour. For five days, it was Hincapie wearing Hincapie, making it a signature brand within the event,” said Steve Brunner, president of KOM Sports Marketing.
Cycling fans can buy official race jerseys at the Health Expo in each Finish City at the Hincapie Sportswear booth.
