Rolla City Street Department workers will
be setting up detours early today at the first of two railroad crossings in town as Burlington Northern Santa Fe officials will be replacing surfaces at crossings this week.
The first crossing to receive a facelift is the intersection
at 18th Street beginning this morning. City Public Works Director
Steve Hargis said all the work is being done by railroad
workers.
“We did the crossings and after they were complete,we turned it over to them for maintenance,” Hargis said Friday.
“They’re doing all the work. We’re just doing the detours
around them.”
Hargis said any work city workers might do would include
improvements to the streets leading to the crossings.
Starting with the 18th StreetCrossing,BNSFworkers
will close the crossing early today. Railroad officials estimate the crossing will then be reopened Tuesday evening.
Also slated for closure is the Sixth Street Crossing, which
will begin on Wednesday.
Like the 18th Street Crossing, the passage will be closed for
the most part of two days, reopening Thursday evening.
Detours will be posted.
