Rolla, Mo. -

Mark Twain National Forest visitors will enjoy free camping Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 Veteran’s Day in honor of US Armed Forces members and their families.

Greer Crossing Campground on the Eleven Pt. River and North Fork Campgrounds and Day Use, along the North Fork of the White River in Ozark County, are still open.

The following day use areas are also open, offering restrooms but no water:
Deer Leap Boat Launch, on the Current River outside of Doniphan in Ripley County;
Markham Day Use and Boat Launch, in Wayne County, and
Watercress Day Use and Boat Launch, also in Wayne County.

Annual or day use permits will still be needed for use of ATV and Motorcycle Trails at Chadwick, near Ava, and Sutton Bluff, near Salem.

Many other campgrounds and day use areas are open year around without fees.
“We hope our military families enjoy the outdoors on November 11 with our thanks for the sacrifices they’ve made,” said Mark Twain National Forest Supervisor Dave Whittekiend.
