During a brief City Council meeting, Newburg officials discussed the aftermath of the flood that hit the city two weeks ago.

City Clerk Phyllis Harris informed the council the city would not be declared a federal disaster area since the damage sustained during the flooding was not extensive enough to warrant the designation.

Councilman Randy Brinkley wanted to know whether the city would eventually start digging out the ditches throughout the city that still contained debris.

“Are we going to get permission from DNR (Department of Natural Resources) to get in these creeks and clear them out?” Brinkley said.

Councilwoman Doreen Moore recommended the city look into purchasing a small boat in case of another flood. The Phelps County Sheriff Department had provided a boat to the city during the flood.
