An early-afternoon, five-car pile-up near the Downtown Rolla intersection of U.S. Route 63 and Seventh Street on Wednesday resulted in two people being sent to the hospital.

Deborah Street, of Columbia, and an unidentified passenger in her car, were both transported by ambulance to Phelps County Regional Medical Center after their car was rear-ended, according to a report issued by the Rolla Police Department.

Street’s car incurred “major” damages.

The southbound pile-up began at 1 p.m. when a 1997 Dodge Ram, owned and driven by Charles T. Lee, of Rolla, failed to stop in time and crashed into Street’s 2004 Jeep Cherokee. Lee’s vehicle incurred “moderate” damages.

A right-lane chain reaction ensued when Street’s car crashed into a 2005 Pontiac Montana, owned and driven by David Drabek, of Rockport, Ill. Drabek’s car incurred “moderate” damages.

Drabek’s car hit a 2008 Toyota Tundra, owned and operated by William Komm, of Thayer. Komm’s Toyota incurred “minor” damages.

Komm’s car then hit a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, owned and driven by Carol Foster, of Dixon. The Chevrolet also incurred “minor” damages.

Officers with the Rolla Police Department responded to the accident and directed traffic around the vehicles involved in the accident. Traffic was barely impeded as motorists proceeded through the scene in the left lane of U.S. Route 63.

Also responding with two ladder trucks and eight firefighters, Rolla Fire & Rescue Department assisted with preparing accident victims for transport and removing hazards from the road.

The preliminary report of the accident issued by the RPD did not indicate whether any citations were issued.
