The planned demolition of the Kingshighway McDonalds restaurant this spring has been pushed back until late summer, and that’s just fine with owner David Weinbaum.

IIt was supposed to be spring, but it’s been moved to late August or early September, and that’s OK with Weinbaum, he said, indicating he expected big sales this weekend during the St. Pat's celebration and Summerfest in June.

The restaurant was to be razed and reconstructed on the current site, all part of a five-phase effort to improve traffic on Kingshighway and Missouri Route 72. The plan would spin off some traffic through Bryant Road, eventually connecting with Fairgrounds Road.

Essentially, the Bryant Road extension is the next phase of the plan that will run between the restaurant and Fairgrounds Auto Plaza and curve around to join Fairgrounds Road.

The McDonald’s property is deep, a long way from Kingshighway. Weinbaum said the new building will be utilizing more of the property.

The new building will not only be state-of-the-art, but it will allow for more parking in front of the building, Weinbaum said.

Weinbaum is the owner of eight McDonalds restaurants of which one is the Kingshighway location.

Weinbaum said he actually considered a total rebuild of that facility a couple of years ago, but decided to wait as plans for Kingshighway and its future then were less defined.
