The Rotary Clubs of Rolla have announced that the 2008 Holiday Celebration Buffet and Entertainment is Sunday, Dec. 14.
This will be the ninth year for the annual fundraiser, which serves a bountiful buffet- style meal to approximately 1,100 area residents.
The event is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Havener Center on the Missouri S&T campus.
Members of the Rotary Club of Rolla and the Rotary Breakfast Club of Rolla join forces to provide a festive dining experience for adults and children.
Rotarians will be seen as greeters, servers, meat carvers, plate scrapers, shuttle bus drivers, and table bussers.
Rotary Club past president Mark Potrafka will chair the event this year.
“The Holiday Celebration is not only a great event supported by so many from our community, but it is our major fundraiser for the entire year,” he said.
“It gives our two clubs a chance to join together to raise funds for our local charities.”
Chartwells partners with the Rotarians to net as much profit as possible. The Chartwells staff trains and gives supervision to the multitude of Rotarians and their spouses who volunteer.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Russell House, Greater Rolla Area Charitable Enterprise (G.R.A.C.E.), college scholarships and other local projects.
Silent auction items are being sought by the club members. For those wishing to donate items, contact Potrafka at (573) 341-4993, Dick Mazanec at (573) 364-0410 or leave with Pam Maddalon at Regions Bank, 700 North Park Street, Rolla.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the event, both upstairs and in the lower level foyer. Breakfast Rotarian and former club president Joel Kramme recruits and coordinates the entertainment each year. Instrumental and vocal music groups lend seasonal sounds to the festive event.
An enormous model train display will again be the highlight for youngsters and those not so young. Photos with Santa will be available while the jolly elf visits with the children.
The First Baptist Church will provide the shuttle busses which will pick up guests a the surrounding parking lots and deliver them to the Havener Center. The guests will also have the transportation back to their vehicles.
Tickets are priced at $17 for adults (ages 13 and up) and $8 for children (ages four to 12). Tickets may be purchased from any Rotarian or at Kent Jewelry, 907 N. Pine Street, Rolla. For tickets or more information contact Nancy Brackhahn at (573) 364-7330 or Lynn Stichnote at (573) 201-8835.
