In a field of 116 cyclists, Missouri native Brad Huff, with the Jelly Belly Cycling Team, placed 16th in the Stage Three finish of the Tour of Missouri in downtown Rolla.

With the race finished and waiting for dinner Wednesday evening, Huff took a few minutes to reflect on the Farmington to Rolla leg of the Tour.

“Personally, I would have loved to place myself better. My team worked really hard to get me in a better position, but I got boxed in.

“It was not a ‘grudge match,’ but it was an arduous course. It was very difficult. Luckily, the race was a lot more controlled.

“(Team) Columbia took control of the race and allowed everyone to go at a comfortable speed.

“Right now, I’m recovering. It was like a constant roller coaster, and I still feel like I’m going up and down.”

When asked about his strategy for Stage Four, Huff said he intended “to be opportunistic, pay attention and try to get one of our riders in a winning position near the end.”

The Tour of Missouri is not an easy course to cycle, Huff said.

“It’s definitely not for the wishy-washy. It takes full commitment. It shows how much suffering is going on out there.

“I’d love to be able to participate in the Tour again next year. This is a professional sport, and these are international athletes.

“Even though we didn’t win (Stage Three), it was a good result,” Huff said.
