A joint effort between Pathways Community Behavioral Healthcare, Inc, Prevention Consultants of Missouri, the Missouri Department of Mental Health, and the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department begins next week.

The Prescription Take Back Program’s main goal is to prevent and reduce illicit drug use by youth and is based on national statistics that 1 in 5 teens abuse prescriptions, 70% of which are acquired from friends and family.

The program will run from 5:00 to 7:00PM, on four different days, and at three locations in Phelps County.  The only restrictions; they must be at least 18 years old; the must have valid identification; the medications must have been from a licensed pharmacist.

On October 27, you will be able to surrender old and unused medications at the Pathways Office, 1450 East Tenth Street in Rolla.

On November 3, it will be at the Newburg High School on Wolfpride Drive in Newburg.

On November 10, they will be at the St James High School, in St James, and finally, on November 17 again at Pathways in Rolla.

Citizens are invited to clean out their medicine cabinets of those items they no longer use, old liquids, prescription inhalers, ointments, patches and pills.  Those medications collected will be destroyed in a manner that is safe to the environment.  We hope to see you there.

This is one of many programs the Sheriff’s Department participates in every year to help keep our citizens safe.

PSA’s, both audio and video, and other news articles are available on request.
