Gilberto Garcia, 24, of Rolla, was arrested at 6:15 a.m. Sunday after barricading himself inside an Oak Street home for four hours.
Police are reporting no injuries during the incident.
According to a press release issued by the Rolla Police Department Sunday afternoon, the incident began with a 911 call reporting gunfire near the intersection of Third Street and Olive.
When officers responded, they saw Garcia — who was allegedly armed with a rifle — standing outside a home in the 300 block of North Cedar. After police arrived, Garcia ran into the home.
It took four hours of coaxing from RPD officers, SWAT, Phelps County Sheriff’s Department deputies, and Missouri S&T Police to convince Garcia to come outside.
Residents living nearby were evacuated from their homes during the stand-off.
Garcia was arrested without further incident after exiting the home.
The reason for the gunshots has not been released by police, nor have additional details about what may have been happening inside the home during the standoff.
According to the press release, police sought charges of unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to staff at the Phelps County Jail, Garcia was officially charged with one of those charges Sunday afternoon — unlawful possession of a firearm.
Garcia was issued a $20,000 bond which he posted Sunday evening.
Court documents regarding this incident are expected to be released today.
