A 24-year-old Phelps County woman was sentenced Friday to five months in prison and five months of home confinement on federal mail-theft charges.

Deanna Wisdom pleaded guilty in August to one count of possessing stolen mail and appeared for sentencing before U.S. District Judge Rodney W. Sippel in a St. Louis court.

Although the prison sentence was considered as time-already-served, Wisdom also was ordered to pay approximately $4,000 in restitution, said Acting U.S. Attorney Michael W. Reap and Phelps County Sheriff  Rick Lisenbe in a joint statement.

According to court documents, on Sept. 10, 2008, Wisdom possessed items that she stole from a mail route. She used the stolen mail to commit bank fraud and credit card fraud.

Reap commended the work on the case by the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, the Rolla Police Department, the Postal Inspection Service and Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Berry, who handled the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
