Rolla, Mo. -

The Rolla High School Band had a successful marching competition season, although the band’s annual Route 66 Marching Band Festival was canceled because of the condition of Rolla High School’s football field following heavy rains.

For the high school band program, the cancellation means the loss of at least $6,000.

For the hundreds of high school music students who comprise the 16 bands to compete, it means a premature end to their competitive season.

Funds raised by the annual Route 66 festival are used to pay for instruments, bus expenses, and other costs essential to the support of Rolla’s band program.

The band boosters (parents) are currently involved in a fundraiser; a drawing for a trip for two to New York. The tickets are $10 and available from band parents and the winner will be drawn at the band’s winter concert in December.
