Coming this month, Rolla parents will be able to view their children’s grades any time they want.
Ginger King, the district’s technology director, briefed the board on Parent’s Portal.

“It will be available after parent-teacher conferences,” King said.

The service, which is launching  Oct. 19, is an online service that allows parents to look at their children’s grades.

At conferences, parents will need photo identification and a completed form. They will be given the needed personal identification code to sign up online.

In addition to showing a student’s grades, parents will be able to access discipline records, attendance and live grade updates. For parents who are not attending parent-teacher conferences, they can still register with the district.

As for the teachers, current electronic grade-booking is similar to the portal service, according to King.

Christopher Wright, a third-grade teacher at Wyman Elementary, was in attendance and confirmed the two systems comparability.

Earlier in the meeting, Board President Molly Malone gave a brief report on the city’s proposed Enhanced Enterprise Zone.

“We would like for the EEZ to pick up where it (the current enterprise zone) leaves off,” Malone, who sits on the EEZ committee as the district’s representative, said. The current enterprise zone is scheduled to expire in 2012.

“We invite everyone to come and tell us what your feelings are,” Malone said of the two EEZ public hearings scheduled this month.
