Now that a bond issue is officially on the April ballot, the Rolla School district will be moving to convince voters to vote for “Yes.”

During his 2009 survey presentation in November, Ken DeSieghardt, representative of Patron Insight, advised the district it would need to keep the issue on peoples’ “radar.”

The district seems to be heeding that advice. During tonight’s meeting, Superintendent Dr. Jerry Giger will be providing details on a committee formed to provide information to patrons.

Coupling the committee details, Giger has prepared a presentation, detailing the timeline and impact of the proposed bond, while outlining the district’s reason behind putting it on the ballot.

Unanimous approval of the proposed $8.3 million bond issue came in January, after the board originally approved a $9.2 million bond issue in December.

Citing revenue in the capital projects fund, Giger asked board members to reconsider the issue, so as to avoid a needing a tax-increase to fund construction at the high school, junior high and middle school.

Also on the agenda, Board Member Kelly Long is scheduled to give a report on an orientation program for new board members. Long was slated to present at the previous meeting, but had it postponed.

In new business, a representative from the Missouri Department of Conservation will be discussing the grant award for a biomass boiler at the junior high.

The Board meeting will are held at 5:30 p.m., today, in the D. Kent King Administration building.
