Dr. Roger Berkbuegler, principal of Rolla High School had no idea he was going to be honored like he was Tuesday afternoon.
Berkbuegler looked up from his desk in surprise when a line of Rolla Police officers, Superintendent Dr. Jerry Giger, Deputy Superintendent Aaron Zalis, and many of the staff at the high school entered to congratulate him.
On behalf of Rolla Mayor William S. Jenks, III, Staff Sgt. Rick Williams presented Dr. Berkbuegler with a framed proclamation announcing today, May 21, as Dr. Roger Berkbuegler Day.
Lt. Jason Smith presented a framed certificate naming Dr. Berkbuegler as an honorary Police Officer with the Rolla Police Department and Lt. Doug James presented a resolution on behalf of State Rep. Bob May (D-149) and Missouri Speaker of the House, Rod Jetton, designating May 21 as Dr. Roger Berkbuegler Day.
Dr. Berkbuegler has served as principal of Rolla High School for the last 28 years. He also served as chairman and long-time member of the Police Personnel Board, was an active member of Rolla Lions Club and many other civic, educational and community organizations.
As the Jenks indicated, Berkbuegler will long be remembered for his efforts to enhance and improve the quality of life for the entire Rolla community.
